Description
Rooted in centuries of Yamanaka woodturning tradition, the Sinafu Okazu Bowl is a meditation on form, balance, and quiet grace. Designed by Kenichiro Oomori for Gato Mikio, its flared silhouette rises from a slender pedestal, opening outward with a gesture that feels at once poised and fluid — a reflection of its name, Sinafu, meaning “to bend gracefully.” Turned by hand from keyaki (Japanese zelkova), a hardwood celebrated for its strength and fine grain, the bowl is finished in a deep black lacquer that reveals subtle traces of the wood beneath. This interplay of shadow and sheen gives the surface a depth reminiscent of ink reflecting candlelight — understated, timeless, and profoundly elegant. Each piece embodies the dialogue between material and maker, between restraint and expression. Light in the hand, sculptural in presence, it brings a sense of ceremony to everyday dining — a vessel where tradition and contemporary design meet in quiet harmony.
