Description
Tall, dark, and powerful, the Copper Specter Cleaver is artist Martin Huber’s natural complement to his striking Copper Specter Slicer. From the creation of its exceptional copper damascus cladding to the forging of the profile, honing of the edge, and final finishing, this one-of-a-kind chopping tool was crafted by hand in Martin’s studio in Austria’s far north.
Built to move through vegetables with speed and authority, the knife’s weight, balance, and bevel geometry above the razor-sharp ApexUltra edge are all tuned with a single goal in mind: cutting performance and efficiency. A center of mass positioned nearly two inches forward of the blade’s 94mm-tall heel allows the especially thin 187mm / 7.3” edge to fall naturally through ingredients, gravity assisting each cut while the chef’s hand guides the work.
Bold in presence yet uncompromising in use, Martin unites form and function through careful hand-shaping and a remarkable homemade materials combination—120 layers of pure copper and O2 high-carbon steel cladding a core of high-performance, Austrian-born ApexUltra tungsten-carbon steel. A refined hand polish and etch across the convex bevels contrast beautifully with the brute-de-forge hammer marks along the flats that speak to the blade’s hand-forged origins.
Comfort and control, whether during daily prep or table-side service on special occasions, come from a shield-style wa handle sculpted from ironwood loaded with gorgeous grain and color, box oak, copper, and micarta. Purposeful, expressive, and capable, the Copper Specter Cleaver is built to command the board—and to reward the hands that put it to work.
