Description
With a Silas Blacklow creation in hand, daily kitchen cutting tasks don’t feel so everyday. An artist and blacksmith based in Western New York, Silas imbues warmth, nature, and a hint of celestial magic into many of his culinary creations, and the Hidden Sunset Petty does full justice to that desire for more in a tool than simply utility. Forged by hand from W2 high-carbon steel, the 164mm / 6.5″ blade features a thoughtfully imparted differential heat treatment, its subtle, undulating hamon line visible thanks to Silas’ beautiful etch and silky, hand-sanded satin finish. The finely honed symmetrical bevel geometry is superb as well, convex and balanced for all manner of daily meal preparation, slimming downward to a thin, hard, razor-sharp edge. The spine tapers steadily forward from the handle outward until reaching a quite slim, pointed tip that sits low, at the ready for precision slicing and the more delicate cuts. Comfort and control are enjoyed through a simple, elegant handle of Tasmanian Blackwood that boasts stunning color and grain which produce a chatoyance to catch every eye. Tapering back to front with soft, beveled transitions at every turn, the blackwood enjoys a single, domed, bamboo pin and is capped with a ring of heirloom-fit fine silver and a collar of solid copper which surrounds the blade’s tang and reveals the partially hidden sunset engraving.
