Description

A true heirloom of the kitchen, built by hand to be used daily and crafted with care to be passed down through generations. Artist and bladesmith Emiliano Carrillo begins this one-of-a-kind Koa Feathered Petty Chef Knife by combining 1084 and 15n20 high-carbon alloys under heat and immense force to create the damascus billet from which the blade is forged. Once the initial pattern—dense and meticulously controlled—is established, Emiliano then “feathers” the raw steel, producing the mirrored effect that courses from choil to tip in the finished blade.

For versatility and exceptional cutting performance, tall, convex bevels slim downward from a gently rounded spine and taper from heel to tip, resulting in a tough, resilient edge at the rear that grows progressively thinner until a razor-thin, needle-like point is reached. Especially fine along the edge throughout, the 160mm / 6.3” blade moves effortlessly between demanding chopping tasks and the most delicate, precise slices.

Guiding the blade is a handle of equal distinction: Hawaiian koa meets Swedish masur birch, separated by a single black accent ring, and capped with a thoughtfully chosen piece of musk ox horn reclaimed from an antique sounding horn. In the hand, the knife carries the unmistakable feeling of a singular object shaped by traditional techniques, historical reverence, and an artist’s devotion—one of immediate trust, where the knife settles into the hand as if it has always belonged there.
