Description

Inspired by the traditions of Japanese sword-making and adapted for everyday kitchen utility, the Silver Cherry Blossom Gyuto by New York artist and bladesmith Silas Blacklow reflects both heritage and modern craftsmanship. Its elegantly classic blade profile, stiff and strong along the spine with tall, convex geometry above a hard, thin, razor-sharp edge, is designed to handle every cut, from the home cook’s needs to professional service. Hand-forged in Silas’s Elmira, New York studio, the steel formula is crafted in-house from reclaimed wrought iron cladding layered over a core of Japanese Hitachi Blue No.2, bringing time-honored materials into a contemporary form. For push-pull prep work or delicate slices of proteins presented before guests, this blade is built to perform beautifully in any setting. Along its left side, Silas has carved by hand a striking relief of a cherry blossom, a unique and breathtaking detail that enriches the piece’s quiet elegance. The handle, sculpted from black-and-white ebony in takedown construction with a domed bamboo pin, is both comfortable and versatile. Completing the build, a fine silver habaki and seppa lend refinement, the habaki engraved with a traditional “cat scratches” motif. A rare meeting of performance and artistry, the Silver Cherry Blossom Gyuto is a handmade chef’s knife to use, to admire, and to treasure for years to come.
