An ancient word meaning “elegantly hanging,” Sinafu inspires the eponymous collection of lacquerware designed by Kenichiro Oomori for Gato Mikio. Each Sinafu Okazu Bowl is hand-turned in the Yamanaka region, celebrated for centuries of masterful woodwork, blending modern precision with traditional techniques that trace back to Nara-era Japan. Inspired by the traditional tsukushi form, the bowl’s soft, layered curves echo natural lines in motion, offering a tactile grace that delights the fingertips. Crafted from Zelkova serrata — a prized Japanese hardwood often used in bonsai — each piece reveals the living character of the material through its translucent smoke gray lacquer finish.
