Description
From Idaho artist and ABS Master Bladesmith Aaron Wilburn comes a new expression of his Starburst aesthetic, this time elongated, elevated, and grounded in stunning amboyna burl. Crafted by hand in his studio, the Starburst Burl Damascus Chef Knife builds on the gallery-worthy patterning of the damascus design’s origins while expanding in presence and balance. Aaron forges this blade from his house-made mosaic carbon damascus that sees contrasting alloys arranged in the dynamic starburst motif—then sculpts it with refined convex bevels over a long, graceful profile. Measuring 275mm long with a robust 59mm tall heel, the blade carries a commanding edge, large enough in footprint for the kitchen’s biggest cuts, while still achieving precision and slicing finesse with an especially thin, hair-popping sharp edge beneath convex bevel geometry, and that whisper of forward flex approaching the tip. The blade’s spine, rounded for comfort and tapering steadily forward, flows into an integral bolster which begins the handle’s construction while presenting the exquisite damascus pattern in a dense, unique way. Polished and sculpted steel then flows into a ring of black micarta, and finally to the grained amboyna burl, its warm tones and density offering grounding contrast to the metallic shimmering. Beautiful, balanced, and wholly refined, this Starburst Burl Damascus Chef is not just an extension of Aaron’s vision—it’s a new chapter. A knife to be used, admired, and handed down as testimony to artistry in motion.
