Description
A culinary creation of Master Bladesmith Aaron Wilburn, large enough to fill hand, heart, and cauldron. Forged by hand at his Idaho studio, the 275mm / 10.9″ blade carries a homemade feathered mosaic damascus of bold character, its purposefully layered striations coursing from the 62mm heel forward through tall bevels to the pointed tip of a versatile, upswept profile.
Directed by individual hammer blows and their interaction with freehand grinding of the symmetrical bevels’ compound geometry, the pattern shifts direction from one moment to the next, as though the wind pulls and pushes on metallic clouds. Precision and toughness arrive in equal measure: a slim, razor-sharp edge and fine tip backed by primary bevels shaped to move through even the largest, densest ingredients with ease. The spine rounds for comfort, tapering progressively from rigid strength at the heel to a touch of lateral flexibility in the front half.
The handle is two-tone amboyna burl, sculpted with tapering facets in tall octagonal form, its warm reds and golds a counterpoint to the blade’s silver-black motion. The build is completed not with a design element added, but with one left untouched: the live edge of the hardwood, preserved exactly as nature left it.
A knife this size asks something of the cook. It gives back considerably more.
