Description
We are delighted to offer another rare treasure from Bob Kramer, widely regarded as maker of the gold standard in custom culinary knives. Forged by hand in his Washington workshop in 2011, this chef’s knife showcases a 205mm / 8.07″ blade in Kramer’s house-made Ladder pattern carbon damascus. The polished and etched finish brings the densely layered alternating alloys to life, with lines and shadows rippling across the blade in a visual signature that could only belong to Bob. The laddering effect and resulting chatoyance is superb in this first build of the not oft seen damascus pattern to be offered here; it is always a thrill to handle such a piece of history. The knife’s handle is sculpted from richly figured curly maple, also a first in our collection, the hardwood paired with polished brass bolsters, brass pins, and Bob’s signature mosaic pin, creating a harmony of natural warmth and refined craftsmanship. This piece has had a single owner and has never been used. To ready it for this listing, Mr. Kramer himself gave it a full refinishing, returning its original shine, and the opportunity for its new owner to receive an official Second Owner Certificate of Authenticity from the Kramer workshop. Included with the knife is the original 2011 warranty card and Bob’s business card, as well as a receipt verifying Bob’s 2025 refinishing work. As always, an inspection period is extended to the new owner for confidence and peace of mind. For collectors and chefs alike, this piece represents far more than a tool—it is a rare opportunity to hold a living work of art from Bob Kramer, a maker whose knives embody enduring craft, beauty, and spirit.
