Description
Few artists are capable of manipulating Damasteel’s famed, small-batch stainless damascus the way Canada’s Casey Vilensky can. Casey was invited to Damasteel’s forge in northern Sweden for precisely this reason: to teach and lend his expertise to their already talented team. This one-of-a-kind chef’s knife is built for daily cooking, yet features a blade pattern not seen before. Casey has forged an end-grain cut of Damasteel’s material, resulting in the striking concentric layers revealed here.
Stainless and requiring less maintenance than carbon damascus, the Concentric Koa Chef is both visually compelling and fully capable of meeting the demands of a busy kitchen. Hard, especially thin, and razor sharp along the edge, the lightweight 3.3oz / 94g build is quick, nimble, and efficient in hand, even through the most delicate work on the board. A full distal taper along the rounded spine, paired with Casey’s meticulous heat treatment, lends a touch of forward flexibility while maintaining strength and control throughout.
For comfort and balance in a classic, unobtrusive Japanese-inspired form, stunning koa wood is paired with a traditional buffalo horn bolster, separated by a crisp white G10 ring in octagonal configuration. Distinct in pattern, disciplined in execution, and built to be used, the Concentric Koa Chef is a rare study in innovation without excess.
