Description

A refined and elegant workhorse gyuto from France’s Milan Gravier, the Marbre Noir is named for its dark kurouchi finish which, in this singular handcrafted blade, reveals the intertwined layers of organic, random-pattern damascus to striking effect. From beneath the surface of the darkened kurouchi sea pop bright moments of high-carbon steel, the cladding’s same alternating layers visible as though caught in another dimension below the shinogi that separates the kasumi-finished convex primary bevels from the flats above.   Stone-polished and honed for versatile cutting performance, the final shaping of those low, meticulously formed bevels is completed using fine natural Japanese stones from an unknown mine, producing a soft, misty, almost fog-like aesthetic. Rounded and polished for comfort, the blade’s spine tapers steadily forward from over 5mm at the tang to a glass-thin tip 240mm / 9.45” ahead, where precise slicing and delicate detail work are executed with confidence. Standing 62mm tall at the heel, where mass and rigidity lend power for demanding tasks, the blade transitions seamlessly into finesse when required. Sculpted in a traditional wa-style shield profile known as rokkaku hanmaru, the handle features a stunning piece of ziricote burl capped with a darkened, faceted stainless steel ferrule. A commanding yet nuanced tool, the Marbre Noir embodies Milan Gravier’s ability to balance force, precision, and quiet beauty in a knife made for daily devotion.
