Description
The Piper is back, packed with something new.
Forged by hand from a single billet of 80CrV2 carbon steel at his Boulder, Colorado studio, Jayden Simisky’s Tinder Box Piper is a one-piece, all-monolithic chef knife — blade, bolster, and handle ground and shaped from one continuous piece of steel, finished with Jayden’s characteristic forge texture and polished selectively where it counts. The result is a knife that feels as substantial as it looks: heavy, balanced, and confidence-inspiring from the first grip.
The blade is 208mm of versatile, classical Western profile. Tall convex bevels taper to a very thin, hard, and razor-sharp edge, while the full distal taper along the rounded spine slims dramatically from 4.5mm at the choil to just 0.9mm an inch from the tip. At 12oz it carries real authority, and the balance ensures every gram earns its place.
Now for the detail that earns this one its name. Nestled into the hollow end of the handle is a handmade, solid titanium bowl piece, held in place by a purpose-built clip of zirconium, brass, and steel. Remove it, and the Tinder Box reveals its other calling. Return it, and the clip seats it securely — the titanium making faint, musical contact with the steel as the knife moves across the cutting board, a small sound Jayden has left in deliberately. It can be dampened later, if the owner prefers silence. Most, we suspect, will not.
True to the ethos of the Piper series: this knife works hard, and plays hard. Pack a bowl full of your favorite ingredient, and let a Boulder-made piece of culinary art do the rest.
