Description

The multitude of elements that make bladesmith Joshua Prince such a unique and sought-after maker are on full display in this singular nakiri of remarkable caliber. An artist’s artist, Joshua not only teaches and lectures, he continually seeks out deep collaboration with other top artisans. The steel forming the blade of this one-of-a-kind piece is the breathtaking Nautilus mosaic damascus, created over countless hours alongside longtime Eatingtools makers Nick Anderson and Charlie Ellis.

Upon close inspection, the complexity of this material is extraordinary: the dark backdrop is not a single alloy, but a densely layered damascus structure within which the Nautilus’ flowing tentacles emerge—each formed from an even more intricate combination of steels. Across the blade’s tall, robust yet refined symmetrical bevels, the etched interplay of patterns creates an underwater visual as though currents move steadily through the steel itself. From the mollusk-inspired central motif to the churning swirls of the integral forged bolster, Joshua’s mastery of “jelly-rolled” damascus is unmistakable.

Balancing precisely where bolster becomes blade, the knife feels steady and authoritative in the hand, its slim, razor-sharp edge ready to move effortlessly through ingredients, aided by the reassuring presence of its 11.4oz / 322g overall weight. Sculptural and intentional, a handle of vintage micarta with stepped, heirloom fit-up meets the metallic bolster seamlessly, offering comfort, control, and a sense of permanence.

A rare convergence of collaboration, material innovation, and performance—this nakiri stands as both a formidable kitchen tool and a defining expression of Joshua Prince’s artistic voice.
